30 Day Challenge

If you're navigating the complexities of modern romance, you're in good company. More nights than I'd like to admit my husband and I found ourselves caught up in the endless scroll of our phones.....Work emails crept their way into our bedroom, and instead of catching up with each other, we mindlessly scrolled when stress kicked in. 🤳🏽🤳🏽🤳🏽

In an attempt to reduce our (won't admit how many hours) screen time - we tried our own "Digital Detox Challenge", airplane mode-ing our phones for just 30 minutes before bed and it has seriously been a game-changer for our relationship. Disconnecting from screens, focusing on each other, and rediscovering the magic of conversation transformed our relationship. We thought, could this benefit others too? Surely, we're not the only ones with a phone as a third wheel. 🤷‍♀️

What if there's an emergency and someone needs to reach us during the 30 minutes before bed?

You can consider setting your phones on 'Do Not Disturb' mode but allowing certain important contacts to bypass this in case of emergencies.

What if we don't live together or are in a long-distance relationship?

The challenge is still applicable! You can commit to switching off from screens and engage in a phone call or video call with each other during the 30-minute period.

What activities would you suggest we engage in during this time?

Reading together, discussing your day, engaging in light physical activity like stretching, or meditating together are all great options. The main goal is to foster connection.

What should we do if we find it difficult to avoid checking our phones?

It's completely normal to find it challenging at first. You could try keeping your phones in another room, or make use of 'screen time' settings on your phones to restrict access to certain apps during your 30-minute window.

What if we have to work late or have night shifts?

The goal is to disconnect from screens 30 minutes before you plan to sleep, whenever that is. If you have night shifts or work late, simply adjust the timing to suit your schedule.

Can we watch TV or use other electronics, or is the challenge specifically about phones?

While the main focus is on phones due to their ubiquity in our daily lives, the overall goal is to minimize exposure to all screens. Consider taking a break from TV and other electronics as well.

What if we have a designated bedtime routine that involves using a device, like meditation apps or audiobooks?

It's about quality over quantity. If there's a device-related activity genuinely benefiting your sleep and relationship, consider it. But perhaps look for alternatives, like a physical book or a standalone meditation device.

How do we track our progress or stay accountable during the challenge?

Engage with the community by sharing updates, create a joint journal, or simply mark off days on a shared calendar. Celebrate milestones, however small, to stay motivated.

Will there be any support or resources provided during the challenge to help us succeed?

The community will be an essential resource for sharing experiences, tips, and methods that work. Also, look out for Love Lingual's 30 Day Digital Detox Challenge related to enhancing quality time without screens.

What if one of us forgets and checks the phone? Do we have to start over?

Mistakes happen! The challenge is about creating a habit, not perfection. Just acknowledge it, discuss it with your partner, and continue with the challenge the next day. The consistency of trying is more important than an occasional slip.
